Amblyopia (Lazy Eyes)

Amblyopia also known as “Lazy Eyes” is a condition where the eyes look normal but vision in one of the eyes is reduced because the eye and the brain are not working together properly. Amblyopia is a common cause of visual impairment among children. Unless it is successfully treated in early childhood, amblyopia usually persist into adulthood. Amblyopic lack the ability to judge distance and not able to appreciate 3D vision depending on severity.

Amblyopia can result from any condition that prevents the eye from focusing clearly. The most common cause of amblyopia is inability of one eye to focus as well as the other eye. The amblyopic eye can be more nearsighted, more farsighted or has more astigmatism. Amblyopia can also be caused by the misalignment of the two eyes. This can be seen as cross eyes or squint. Occasionally, Amblyopia is caused by a clouding of the front part of the eye a condition called cataract.

Children usually do not realise they are seeing weaker in one eye until the good eyes is covered. Get your eyes assesses by our certified optometrist to detect if your child have a lazy eye. Studies are very limited at this time for success rate for treating amblyopia in adults. During the first 7 to 10 years of life, the visual system develops rapidly. Important connections between the eye and the brain are created during this period of growth and development. The earlier it is detected the better the outcome is.

Treatment for amblyopia requires time. The therapy is to stimulate vision in the weaker eye and help part of the brain involve in vision develop more completely. Contact us ,Vantage Vision Care for appointment call 03-7832 6779.
